Great British Mini Challenge 2010
For two weeks this summer, a British pair are aiming to celebrate what is Great in Britain in a very British way. The Great British Mini Challenge way!
Yorkshire born Alexis Keech and Somerset born Harry Hanscomb have travelled the world extensively. Alexis drove around the world in a land rover forward control 101 for 3 years traversing the planet and notching up 26 countries on her journey and Harry travelled extensively around the world with the army. Both realised that there are just as many amazing and wonderful things to see and do in the UK as there are abroad and we should all celebrate our amazing heritage in this unique way, jump in a classic mini and drive for 1500 miles to see it all!
They are trying to get foreigners and Brits alike to absorb the atmosphere of the biodomes of the Eden project, write home about Shakespeare's birthplace, walk in the footsteps of King Arthur, wonder at the mysteries of Glastonbury and Stonehenge and be inspired by architects ancient and modern. In fourteen days, the Great British Mini Challenge will travel the length and breadth of Britain and visit treasures famous and hidden all from the front seat of one of our nations' greatest icons - the mini.
The Great British Mini Challenge will gather 20 teams, 20 minis and as many sponsors as we can muster and have a laugh as we travel from Land's End to John O'Groats taking in as many of the sights and experiences as we can on the way. World Heritage sights, castles, food, photography, birthplaces, viewpoints, battle sites, birthplaces, bridges, tunnels, canals, factories, distilleries, vineyards, museums, stately homes, rock and roll venues, sports stadiums, folly's, landmarks, cemeteries, abbeys, cliffs, waterfalls, moors, mountainsÉ. and pubs.
Fear not eco warriors, the carbon footprint of the entire rally will be neutralised through a carbon sequestration programme (buying and planting British trees) whilst raising money and awareness for British green charities and human charities.
This really will be, probably, the Greatest British adventure, everÉ
